ABQ Volleyball
"Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge"
Albuquerque Volleyball Club
ABQ Volleyball is a developmental girls volleyball club from the Albuquerque metro area. Established in 2006 by Joe and Melissa Gutierrez, we began as a single parochial school team that wanted to play more and get better. Since then we have expanded to include several parochial, private and public school players.
Mission Statement
ABQ volleyball teaches volleyball skills to girls from 4th-8th grade. Our goal is to develop social skills, self-esteem, confidence and teamwork while developing coordination, agility, athleticism and competition. We also aim to develop positive attitudes and guide how players deal with success as well as failure. Playing volleyball can promote active and fit lifestyles that our kids can use all their lives.
Information About 2023-2024 Season

3rd-8th grade girls can play. Currently we have players from St Mary’s of Albuquerque, Fatima, Annunciation, St Therese, Holy Ghost, Assumption, St Thomas Aquinas, St Charles, Sandia Prep, Hope, Albuquerque Academy, and San Felipe along with a few APS and charter schools. Girls may participate in club volleyball even if they play other sports during the club volleyball season.

We will have a required parent meeting at the beginning of evaluations. After that, players will be evaluated for about 2 hours. Parents are welcome to stay and observe or may return to pick up their daughter at the end.

Players are evaluated by age, skill level and experience. The goal is to form teams that will help players develop, improve and be challenged appropriately. At the 7th/8th grade level, players are competing for spots on each team. 8th grade girls must have at least one season of playing experience.

Your family will be asked to accept the player’s spot on a team and commit to that team regardless of which other players are on that team or which coach/assistant is assigned to that team. If there are transportation issues for parents, this must be discussed at evaluations. We encourage parents to accept the team they are assigned to and network with other parents for rides. We have traditionally had great families who help each other with rides to practice and tournaments.

We regret that we cannot add players after the evaluation date due to the large increase in the number of players and the limitations of practice space and coaching staff. If you cannot attend the evaluation date, please contact the club directors.

Practices: Tuesdays 6-8 PM and Saturdays 9-11 AM (2 days per week)
Practices typically run 1.5-2 hours twice a week. Specific practice days/times/locations for your team will be determined each month and may vary. Practices are held at St. Therese.

Tournaments: On average, each team plays 7 tournaments per season. Most teams play local one-day (Sunday) tournaments at Rio Rancho High School or Cleveland High School. We also participate in the Cactus tournament when it is held.

Fees for the 2023-2024 club season are $650.00 per player.
